An undergraduate degree in a STEM discipline (science, technology, engineering, and math) is preferred but not required. About 5-10% of incoming MSEM students do not have an undergraduate STEM degree. In these instances, we look for strong quantitative ability as evidenced by prior success in technical or mathematics coursework.
A minimum of two years of work experience. For applicants who have less than two years of experience, internships are also considered.
The ability to contribute in a dynamic, interactive classroom environment.
A strong record of performance in the workplace.
Current employment is preferred but not required.
A strong desire to be leaders within technology driven companies.
1.Academic Records
Applicants are required to upload an unofficial (student) copy of transcripts received from each college or university attended where credit was earned toward an undergraduate, graduate or professional degree.
2.Two Letters of Recommendation
The letters should be from individuals who can make specific comments on your performance in the workplace. It is preferable for your current supervisor to complete one of the recommendations.
3.Personal Statement
A 600-800 word essay that explains why you want to attend Tufts Gordon Institute's M.S. in Engineering Management program and how it fits into your future career aspirations and personal goals.
4.Résumé
A current résumé that outlines your employment and academic history.
5.GRE or GMAT - not required
Tufts Gordon Institute believes that the quality of the applicant's academic record, work experience and letters of recommendation are the best indicators of potential for success in this program. However, if you have previously taken the GRE or GMAT you do have the option to submit your scores as part of your application for admissions. The Tufts University code number is 3901.
6.Optional Essay - not required
An optional short essay (200-250 words) in which you respond to one of three prompts. This essay is not required and should be completed only if you feel it will provide the admissions committee with a more complete picture of who you are. Choose from one of the three questions:Tell us about a time when you had to convince an individual or group of your idea.
Tell us about your most meaningful leadership experience.
Tell us about a time when you identified an opportunity for improvement within your department/company/organization and you were able to successfully implement this change.
7.Application Fee
The application fee of $85 is payable through the online application by credit card or e-check through the online application and is not refundable.
The application fee is waived for:
Applicants who attend any MSEM admissions event
Tufts University alumni
Tufts University employees
Contact Tufts Gordon Institute admissions for instructions on how to obtain your fee waiver.
8.Interviews
Although interviews are not required, you may be asked to participate in one (either in-person or via Skype) after the admissions committee has conducted an initial review of your completed application. In these cases, an interview provides us with the opportunity to gather additional information or virtually meet applicants who are not able to visit campus in person.
We encourage applicants, whenever possible, to attend one of our on-campus admissions events. These events allow you to learn more about our program and get your questions answered while also providing us with the opportunity to meet you and learn more about your background and interests. If attendance at one of our upcoming admissions events does not fit into your schedule, you can reach out to our admissions team to arrange for another time to visit with us either in person or virtually.
