Admissions Process
Students are admitted to the MS in Human-Computer Interaction program only in the fall semester; entering classes range in size from 45 to 50 students.
There is no advantage to having your application in early—review begins on the application due date of February 1, with most acceptance letters going out 5 to 6 weeks later. But don’t wait until the last minute either, as there are often delays in obtaining transcripts and letters of recommendation!
Complete the online application
During the online application process you will be given a choice of MS-HCI for each of the four schools:
Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction (College of Computing) (Note: within Interactive Computing)
Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction (Industrial Design)
Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction (Literature, Communication and Culture) (Note: within Digital Media in what is now Literature, Media and Communications)
Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction (Psychology)
A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better is expected. The GRE General Test is required. A score of 80th percentile or higher on each of the three subtests is desired. You need not take a GRE Subject Test, but are welcome to do so. If your GPA or one of your test scores is below the minimum, you are not automatically disqualified from consideration. We consider the strength of the overall application: your educational and professional background, statement of purpose, resume, portfolio and letters of recommendation.
An internet project portfolio is required by LMC and ID and is encouraged but not required by Computing. It is less important for Psychology.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for candidates from non-English speaking countries who have not studied in the United States for at least one year. The minimum accepted score is 100. The IELTS test is NOT accpeted by Georgia Tech.
Tuition and fees for the program can be found on the bursar's website. Our tuition is higher than regular graduate tuition, so be sure to read down the tuition table to find MS-HCI.
If you have questions about the online application process, please refer to the FAQs for the GT Application (which also has a way to ask questions), and also the MS-HCI FAQs.
If you have questions about acceptance criteria or the curriculum or the various specializations, first review the MS-HCI FAQs, other pages under the admissions and program tabs, and then contact our program coordinator.
