The Executive Master in Cybersecurity program is for mid-career executives with significant professional experience in technical or policy areas. They have an established track record of achievement and may already have an advanced degree in a technical or business domain.
Applicants should demonstrate a record of organizational responsibility and professional achievement. Applicants’ records of academic achievement may include post-graduate degrees but there is no formal educational requirement beyond a bachelor’s degree. Applicants are not required to submit scores for the Graduate Record Exam. Where appropriate, applicants may be required to submit TOEFEL scores.
Candidates are selected for the program based on what they will contribute to the peer learning community and their readiness to benefit from the program. The professional diversity of the cohort is a key benefit to the students.
1. Application Form & Fee
Please complete and submit the online application (not currently available). The application fee of $200 US can be paid by credit card via the online application, or by check to Brown University mailed to 200 Dyer Street, Box T, Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island 02912 USA.
2. Personal Statement
As part of the online application you will need to prepare a personal statement that addresses why you want to pursue the Executive Master in Cybersecurity at Brown, what you hope to learn from the program, and how your participation will enrich the experience of others in the program (approximately 500 words).
3. Description of Critical Challenge
As part of the online application you will need to submit a critical challenge project synopsis. The critical challenge will become the focus of your independent student “Critical Challenge Project” course throughout the program. In approximately 200 words, describe a critical challenge related to your industry and interests, drawing from your own experience and vision for the future. Address the complexity and intractability of the problem in the current environment, and organizational barriers and constraints that surround it.

5. Official Transcript(s)
Please submit an official transcript for all programs, both undergraduate and graduate, for which you were awarded a degree, prior to arrival on campus. Please note that unofficial transcripts may be uploaded to the online application, but official transcripts are required for an application to be considered complete.
6. Letters of Recommendation (3)
On the application, you must provide the names and email addresses of three professional colleagues who have agreed to your request to provide a letter of recommendation. One letter should come from your present or past supervisor, or from a more senior executive in your organization. Please note the referee will be asked to asses the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses in areas such as creativity, initiative and aptitude for advanced study. They will also be asked about the nature of their relationship with the applicant and any relevant information pertaining to merits aiding in successful integration into the program.
7. For Team Applications Only: A Letter from the Sponsoring Organization
No standardized test scores are required. Graduate Record Exam scores are not required. You may submit GRE scores as part of the online application if you have them. If appropriate, you may be asked to provide TOEFEL scores.
The Selection Committee will review complete applications only. You will be notified by email about missing elements in your application, and you may login to monitor whether your file is complete.
Select candidates will be invited to interview. Candidates who are accepted into the program will be notified by the Brown University Graduate School.
There is no application deadline for this program. The selection committee meets regularly. Applications will be considered and admission will be granted until the program is full.
