The minimum requirement for entry in our graduate programs is a bachelor's degree and undergraduate classes in the engineering, science, or mathematics disciplines. Although the specific class requirements differ by program, students are generally expected to have taken classes in science, mathematics, and engineering sciences. Please note that students may be admitted to our graduate programs on the condition that they complete any required coursework during their first year at Tufts. Credits resulting from the successful completion (i.e., a grade of B or better) of conditional coursework are required to obtain a degree but may not be used to satisfy graduate course requirements within the degree program.
1.Application Fee
Application fee of $85. The application fee is payable through the online application by credit card or e-check (drawn on a US bank). The application fee is not refundable. Your credit card or e-check statement is your receipt. Applications cannot be reviewed until this fee has been received.
2.Resume/CV
A current résumé or CV that includes information about and dates of your educational history, employment, academic honors, scholarships, publications and other activities is required to be uploaded as part of your completed application.
3.Personal Statement
Applicants are required to upload a personal statement describing your reasons for wanting to pursue graduate study at Tufts in the program to which you are applying. Please limit your personal statement to a maximum of five pages (2,500 words). Refer to the Requirements and Deadlines document to determine if the program to which you are applying has specific prompts
4.Official GRE scores
GRE not required for current Tufts undergraduates applying to the M.S. degree program
GRE scores may be waived for part-time students with five years of industry experience who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Visit go.tufts.edu/engmasters for complete details. If you believe you are eligible to have the GRE waived based on these requirements, please contact gradadmissions@tufts.edu with the subject line “Engineering part-time Master's GRE requirement"
5.Official TOEFL or IELTS, if applicable
Applicants who are not native speakers of English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum TOEFL score of 550 points on the paper based test or 90 on the internet based exam is required. The minimum IELTS scores is 6.5. Please note: student copies or photocopies of TOEFL/IELTS scores are not accepted.
6. Writing Sample
If your program requires a writing sample, please upload the document in the appropriate section of the online application. Refer to the Requirements and Deadlines document to determine if the program to which you are applying has specific prompts.
7. Digital Portfolio
If you are applying to a degree program within the School of Engineering, you may upload a video presentation (2 minutes maximum) of your own design, product or research conducted, to demonstrate to the admissions committee your interest and skill sets. This video essay is optional, but recommended. Non-native English speakers are encouraged to submit a digital portfolio to demonstrate English language skills.

The Master of Science in Structural Engineering incorporates depth in a balanced course distribution in structural analysis, mechanics, and design. A total of ten course credits must be taken to fulfill the requirements of the Master of Science degree. Students have the option of completing a thesis for two credits (thesis-option).
