A two-part essay that is a maximum of five (5) typed pages (double-spaced, 12 point font) and is exemplary of graduate-level writing. The first part of the essay is a Personal Statement, in which you are asked to discuss the significant factors influencing your decision to pursue a master’s degree in nonprofit management, past experiences that will contribute to your success, how you envision contributing to the School community, and why the Mandel School is a good fit for your educational goals. The second part is an Analytical Essay, in which you are asked to imagine you are a nonprofit executive, discuss the forces impacting nonprofit organizations today, and identify three things you would do to ensure the success and effectiveness of the programs your organization delivers. Applicants also have the option of providing an explanation for their academic history in the essay section (for example, a 3.0 or lower grade point average or a failing grade). In all submissions, the quality of your writing and professionalism will be taken into account.
A current resume highlighting your paid and volunteer experiences.
Three recommendation letters (preferably from a faculty member, direct supervisor, or volunteer coordinator).
Demonstration of English Proficiency
If English is not your native language, you will be required to submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test score. The Mandel School code for TOEFL is 1105. The minimum TOEFL required scores are: 577 (paper-based) or 90 (internet-based). For the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the minimum score is 7.0. Official results of this test must be forwarded to the Mandel School Office of Admissions.
If your native language is English, you have completed your work in an international university where English is the language of instruction, or you have studied at or graduated from an American institution, you are exempt from this proficiency testing requirement.
Proof of Financial Support
If admitted to the program, international students must provide proof of financial support. Once admitted, you will be asked provide original bank documents as evidence of support to cover educational and living expenses for one academic year. This supporting documentation will be required to confirm enrollment and initiate the appropriate immigration and visa process. (This proof of financial support can include all scholarship awards from the Mandel School.)

The Mandel School offers a Master of Nonprofit Organizations (MNO), which is a 39 credit hour degree program comprised of 27 hours of required coursework and 12 hours of electives. The MNO requires a 3-credit hour internship, an ideal way to gain real-world experience and network in the field (this requirement may be waived if you have previous or current nonprofit experience). Complete the MNO full-time in three semesters over 11 months or part-time in two years (taking 3-7 credits per semester). We conveniently offer fall, spring, and summer enrollment options, every application receives scholarship consideration, and financial aid is available.
A Certificate of Nonprofit Management (CNM) is also offered, which is a 15 credit hour program that may be completed as a stand-alone certificate or part of the MNO or MSSA programs.
