录取要求

We expect applicants to have earned their bachelor's degrees by the time they matriculate, and to possess strong backgrounds in computer science or a related discipline. To be eligible for the M.S. program, students must notalready hold a master's degree in computer science or an equivalent field.

Successful M.S. applicants usually have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.5/4.0, GRE scores of at least 70% verbal, 90% quantitative, and 40% analytical writing, and three strong letters of recommendation. International students should have a TOEFL score of at least 100. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program generally exceed these standards. In addition, students admitted to the Ph.D. program often have prior research experience or have demonstrated research aptitude.

1.Have ETS send your GRE scores to institution code 1839. GRE scores are valid 5 years from the date you took the test to the deadline date when you apply. We encourage you to take the GRE no later than one month prior to the application deadline, and preferably earlier.

2.International students:Have ETS send your TOEFL scores to institution code 1839. TOEFL scores are valid 2 years from the date you took the test to the deadline date when you apply. We encourage you to take the TOEFL no later than one month prior to the application deadline, and preferably earlier.

3.Have your official transcripts, certificates, or diplomas mailed to Rackham at the address below. These official paper copies are required in addition to the electronic transcript images you uploaded. You must request these from the institutions involved. If you have a foreign transcript, include both the official document in the original language and an official English translation.

4. Compose your statement of purpose and personal statement. Your statement of purpose should address your academic research interests, past research experience, and future career goals. Your personal statement should describe how your life experiences affected your decision to pursue a graduate degree.

5.Request three letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with your academic performance and research potential. We recommend that at least two letters come from faculty. Recommendation letters should be submitted electronically through the online application, if at all possible. (Paper copies of your letters of recommendation are discouraged, but if you absolutely must submit a recommendation letter by postal mail.

The Computer Science and Engineering program at the University of Michigan, founded by computing pioneer Arthur Burks and Gordon Peterson in 1957, is among the richest in history and most progressive in vision. John H. Holland received the first PhD in computer science at Michigan in 1959. In 1966, the Michigan Terminal System (MTS) was developed as one of the world's first time-sharing computer operating systems. Seminal work in the development of computer databases by Edgar (Ted) Codd took place at Michigan in the late 1960s. Today, dozens of our former graduate students serve as faculty at other research universities. Four Michigan alumni – Frances Allen, Edgar Codd, Stephen Cook, and Michael Stonebraker – are Turing Award recipients. Another, Larry Page, co-founded Google, one of the largest and most influential technology companies.
