A baccalaureate degree in Mechanical Engineering or in Aerospace Engineering, or baccalaureate degree in a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program.
A minimum undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0/4.0.
A minimum combined score of 301 for the GRE® Verbal and Quantitative portions with minimum of 151 Quantitative. (GRE® tests taken prior to August 1, 2011 require a combined score of 1100 for the Verbal and Quatitative portions with a minimum of 650 Quantitative.)
International applicants are required to have a TOEFL score of 80 internet-based, 213 computer-based, or 550 paper-based. In addition, a minimum verbal GRE score of 140 is required (or 320 for GRE® tests taken prior to August 1, 2011).

UF requires proficiency in spoken and written English and accepts the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The university's TOEFL code is 5812.

Florida law requires all non-U.S. students who are going to be graduate teaching assistants-- even if exempted from the IELTS, MELAB and TOEFL requirement -- to prove adequate command of the English language.

Mechanical Engineering (ME) is among the oldest and broadest of all engineering disciplines. ME applies the principles of engineering, physics, materials and engineering science for the analysis, design, manufacturing, testing and maintenance of mechanical systems. ME is an interdisciplinary major that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power, encompasses mechanical and systems design, testing and manufacturing, controls and optimization, and overlaps into the discipline of aerospace engineering, as well as metallurgical, civil, electrical, petroleum, manufacturing, chemical and biomedical engineering.
