Full-time work experience is not a requirement. Proficiency in English is required.

The one-year master's program begins in August and concludes at the end of June. The admissions committee seeks well-rounded individuals who bring exceptional intellectual capabilities, proven academic preparation, and a passion for their chosen field of study. The committee looks for evidence of strong academic ability and qualities of character, such as motivation, maturity, tenacity, integrity, ability to work with others, self-reliance, and leadership. We strive to achieve a class environment with diversity of perspectives and life experiences.

Submit Official Test Scores

GMAT or GRE

Applicants must submit official test scores from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) to the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia - GMAT Code KC7-K3-75 . Applicants who have already taken the GRE or plan to take it in order to apply to other graduate programs may substitute the GRE for the GMAT by sending official GRE scores to the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia – GRE Code 5829 . Please note that unless you are required to take the GRE for another program, we strongly prefer you to take the GMAT, as it provides the admissions committee with additional information on your integrated reasoning abilities.

English Language Test

Much of a student’s time in the McIntire School of Commerce is spent collaborating, discussing, and presenting work orally as well as in writing. As a result, a high level of oral and written English communication skills are required of all students.

Language Proficiency Test Scores: International applicants are required to submit official scores from an English language test. We accept scores from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Language Proficiency Test  Waiver

International students, whose primary language is not English, and who will complete an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited United States college or university that included a minimum of two years of residency in the U.S. are not required to provide a TOEFL or IELTS score. The admissions committee reserves the right to request a TOEFL or IELTS test score from any candidate to assist in the assessment of English language proficiency.

Submit Transcripts or Credential Evaluation

Applicants must have earned their undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and from a business school with AACSB or EQUIS accreditation. If you attend or attended a U.S. institution, you may upload copies of your transcript to your application for use in the evaluation process. Please mark out your SSN or National ID before uploading unofficial transcripts. Applicants who are offered admission must arrange for your official/final transcript to be forwarded to the McIntire Graduate Admissions office (addresses below).

Students who completed coursework outside of the United States must submit a professional course-by-course credential evaluation of their official transcripts. This evaluation must be performed by a professional credential evaluator, with the report sent directly from the evaluator to the McIntire School of Commerce at one of the addresses below. No exceptions are made. International applications will not be considered complete without the course-by-course credential evaluation. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the admissions committee. (Note: This requirement does not apply to students attending U.S. institutions who completed coursework outside of the United States as part of a study-abroad program.)

Identify Two Letters of Recommendation

Applications require two letters of recommendation. At least one recommender must be someone who has taught you in an academic environment and can attest to your academic abilities. There is a section of the online application that allows you to add each recommender's name and contact information. Recommenders then receive an online recommendation form that will automatically attach to your application once the recommender completes and submits his or her recommendation.

Pay the Application Fee and Submit Your Application

The $75 non-refundable application fee can be paid online (American Express, Discover, or Mastercard) or by check. If you are paying the application fee by check, be sure to mail it to McIntire so that it may be attached to your application file. Once an application has been submitted, you will not be able to make changes to the application.

Track Your Application

You can track your application's progress by logging into the application. Candidates are encouraged to keep copies of all admissions materials for their personal files. Every attempt will be made to review applications within the requested evaluation period (round). However, incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
