Submit Official Test Scores

GMAT or GRE

Applicants must submit official test scores from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) to the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, code KC7-K3-45 . Do not select the generic University of Virginia code. Scores will reach the M.S. in Commerce Program only if you select McIntire. (Applicants who have already taken the GRE or plan to take it in order to apply to other graduate programs may substitute the GRE in lieu of the GMAT. Send official GRE scores to code 5829 . Please note the GMAT is strongly preferred.)

English Language Test

Much of a student’s time in the McIntire School of Commerce is spent collaborating, discussing, and presenting work orally as well as in writing. As a result, a high level of oral and written English communication skills are required of all students.

There are a number of ways for non-native English speakers to demonstrate their oral and written English language ability.

1. Language Proficiency Test Scores (required, unless you meet the conditions of #3 below): International applicants are required to submit official scores from an English language test. We accept scores from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). To be competitive, your TOEFL score must be a minimum of 250 (online) or 100 (iBt), or a minimum overall band score of 7.5 for IELTS.

TOEFL scores must be submitted electronically to the University of Virginia code B626 . In order to search for the code, use “Institution” and select “University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce.” We do not accept paper-based TOEFL scores.

Electronic IELTS scores must be submitted to our Electronic Download account directly by the IELTS test center. An institution code for IELTS is NOT required. Please provide the following information to the test center when requesting your scores:

° E-download account name: University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce

° E-download account address: 125 Ruppel Dr. Charlottesville, VA 22903

2. InitialView Interview (optional): Beginning in fall 2017, applicants have the opportunity to work with InitialView to provide a recorded interview and writing sample as additional evidence of their English language proficiency. InitialView does not rate or grade the interview or writing sample. This evaluation is done by our admission office. Although this is not required, it is an excellent way to add another dimension to your candidacy. You may learn more about InitialView at www.initialview.com. Please arrange to have your interview and writing sample completed well in advance of the admission deadline.

3. Language Proficiency Test Waiver:  International students, whose primary language is not English, and who will complete an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited United States college or university that included a minimum of two years of residency in the U.S. are not required to provide a TOEFL or IELTS score. The admissions committee reserves the right to request a TOEFL or IELTS test score from any candidate to assist in the assessment of English language proficiency.

Submit Transcripts or Credential Evaluation

If you attend or attended a U.S. institution, you may upload copies of your transcript to your application for use in the evaluation process. Please mark out your SSN or National ID before uploading unofficial transcripts. Applicants who are offered admission must arrange for your official/final transcript to be forwarded to the McIntire Graduate Admissions office (addresses below).

Students who completed coursework outside of the United States must submit a professional course-by-course credential evaluation of their official transcripts. This evaluation must be performed by a professional credential evaluator, with the report sent directly from the evaluator to the McIntire School of Commerce at one of the addresses below. No exceptions are made. International applications will not be considered complete without the course-by-course credential evaluation. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the admissions committee. (Note: This requirement does not apply to students attending U.S. institutions who completed coursework outside of the United States as part of a study-abroad program.)

Applications require two letters of recommendation. At least one recommender must be someone who has taught you in an academic environment and can attest to your academic abilities. There is a section of the online application which allows you to add each recommender's name and contact information. Recommenders then receive an online recommendation form that will automatically attach to your application once he or she completes and submits their recommendation.

Pay the Application Fee and Submit Your Application

The $75 non-refundable application fee can be paid online (American Express, Discover, or Mastercard) or by check. If you are paying the application fee by check, be sure to mail it to McIntire so that it may be attached to your application file. Once an application has been submitted, you will not be able to make changes to the application.

Track Your Application

You can track your application's progress by logging into the application. Candidates are encouraged to keep copies of all admissions materials for their personal files. Every attempt will be made to review applications within the requested evaluation period (round). However, incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Missing documentation may result in holding an application until a later round.
